Welcome to the Resident Education in Sleep Techniques (REST) Program
It’s no secret that everyone faces challenges when it comes to sleep at some time in their lives. And as residents and fellows, you face unique challenges with sleep related to your rigorous training schedules.
The Resident Education in Sleep Techniques (REST) Program was designed by the Integrative Therapies Program in the Department of Pediatrics at CUIMC in collaboration with the Pediatric Resident Well-Being Committee and the Monday Campaigns team. It’s intended to help you improve your sleep and offers you a specialized set of sleep techniques that you can practice at your leisure throughout the week.
These practices—ranging from acupressure and tapping to aromatherapy, self-hypnosis and more—will teach you skills that aim to improve your own sleep, reduce stress, decrease sleep-related impairment and prevent burnout. Furthermore, every practice you learn can be incorporated into your clinical toolkit for patients and families who experience poor sleep.
The REST program features 12 weeks worth of practices intended to help you improve your own sleep.
Every week includes:
- Topics related to sleep hygiene, environment, or behavior
- A video featuring an integrative sleep technique and a guided practice of that technique
- Patient resources that you can use to teach patients about how they can improve their own sleep
