Use Everyday Activities to Get Exercise This Monday
Did you know several of the activities you do every day might actually burn as many calories as a light workout? It doesn’t take much movement to get the benefits of exercise.
Start where you are! Turn mundane activities into Move It Monday opportunities, from chores to errands, there’s plenty you can do to keep moving. Studies show every bit counts.
- Housework is Exercise! Daily chores like mowing the lawn, vacuuming, cleaning the car, food shopping, cooking, and cleaning your house all count as light to moderate physical activity. So put some elbow grease into that sponge and work up a sweat!
- Do Errands. Travel on foot to do errands instead of hopping into the car. And if you really need your car, park a few blocks away from your destination to get your walk on.
- Shop for Your Heart. Need to do some clothes shopping? Whether you’re outdoors or indoors, at a mall, shopping involves walking. Walking is good for your heart, your lungs, and may improve your mood.
- Use Meals as an Excuse to Move It. Going out to eat? Walk to the restaurant. If that’s not possible, take an after-dinner stroll. A study found it helps with digestion and improves blood sugar levels. Who knew? Now you do!
While your daily activities won’t replace an exercise session, it doesn’t mean you won’t benefit. According to the U.S. government, physical activity is good for your heart, circulation, overall mood, muscle strength, and so much more.
