Walk for Women’s Health
No need to wait for Woman’s Health Week (May) or National Women’s Health & Fitness Day (September) to spend time with the women in your life and do a Monday Mile to get moving and be healthy.
A Monday Mile is an easy one-mile walk with a boundless list of health benefits. As you have learned, doing a Monday Mile starts with mapping out a route from your front door, a park, a walkway, or a nature trail and do a one-mile brisk walk. Not only is it an achievable goal, but it is a great way to play catch-up with a friend (or two), a sister, a neighbor, or a colleague.
Besides getting your heart rate up, brisk walking has real benefits for women, whose greatest health risk is cardiovascular disease. Walking regularly can reduce your risk for several conditions, such as heart disease and stroke, in addition to other diseases that affect women, such as osteoporosis and breast and colon cancer. Plus, it’s great for your mood, digestion, blood sugar, and it helps you sleep.
By starting a new routine on Monday, you are more likely to keep it up all week. Call the women in your life and plan to do a Monday Mile together!
